About The Course
If your child shows an interest in classical dance, the Gandharva Bharathanatyam Foundation course is a perfect starting point. This course introduces basic movements for body awareness and teaches traditional ‘Adavu,’ a systematic sequence of stamping steps.
Participants will explore various rhythm patterns at different tempos, learn the expressive language of dance through hand and finger gestures, and engage in chanting. The course also includes basic choreography set to music, culminating in a performance.

Learning Outcomes You Can Expect
- Chant the shlokas, do namskar and perform 6 tatadavus
- Recall and recite how the adavus should be done, demonstration of the adavu according to individual ability
- Recite the Asamyutha Hastas or Single hand gestures from Abhinaya Darpana
- Perform hands to the Dhyana Shlokam, Guru Shlokam and Saraswathi Shlokam to set music

Do you provide any study material with the course?
Yes! Once you become a Gandharva student, you will have access to all the resources you need from reading material to practice videos, and even tools like metronome, music sheets, backing track and more. You will find all the resources on your student dashboard.
Do you teach adults?
Yes. At Gandharva School of Music, there is no age barrier to start learning something new. There is no better proof of it than our cohort. Our youngest student is 6 years old and our oldest student is 53 years old.
Which instrument model should I purchase?
Once you enroll with us, our counsellor will guide you through the process of choosing the right model based on your budget and preferences.
Do you teach Grade Exams and provide certifications?
Yes, we prepare you for RSL, Trinity, and ABRSM exam. You can discuss with your counsellor and pursue any of these certifications.
Will there be a Theory or Practical Exam at the end of the course?
Our primary aim is to offer holistic music education. This is why, for the final assessment, we ask you to submit a video answering some theory questions and a performance piece.
